Old Town Real Estate Market

Old Town is widely considered to be one of Chicago’s most sought-after locations to call home, which was made clear back in 2012 when realtor.com named it “America’s Most Popular Neighborhood.” Simply put, after a quick stroll down any of its quiet residential streets, you’ll quickly see exactly what makes Old Town such a special place to live, work, and play. Like its Gold Coast neighbor, Old Town features plenty of vintage real estate opportunities, including a broad mix of Victorian-style buildings that date all the way back to the late 1870s. In recent years, however, large-scale development has also been on the rise in Old Town, so prospective buyers shouldn’t have much trouble finding something with more of a modern look and feel as well. But because of its overall appeal and desirability, expect to pay a premium if Old Town is ultimately where you want to buy or rent.

Old Town Attractions & Amenities

The beauty of calling Old Town home is that you’ll never be short on things to do. The neighborhood’s main commercial strip runs along North Wells Street and it’s here you’ll find a seemingly endless supply of restaurants, bars, cafes, and small boutique shops. Zanies, one of Chicago’s most popular comedy clubs, is also located along Wells Street, as is Village Cycle Center, which is one of our favorite bike shops in all of Chicago. Other neighborhood highlights include the Franklin Fine Arts Centers and park, located at 225 W. Evergreen Avenue, and residents will also be just a short distance from all of what Chicago’s lakefront provides, as well as nearby Lincoln Park.

Old Town Transit

Old Town is mainly serviced by the CTA Brown Line, although the CTA Clark/Division Red Line station is also nearby as well. The CTA Sedgwick Brown Line Station is located at 1536 North Sedgwick Street. Major CTA bus lines that travel in and out of the Old Town neighborhood include Bus #22 (Clark) and #36 (Broadway).
